Blessings for ParentsDuring the service there are a few blessings read by the parents. They are included here so you may familiarize yourselves with them beforehand. Whether you do so or not, I will have them available at the time of the ceremony. Traditionally, the father reads these blessings, but in a non-traditional setting, both parents often read them. If the father is not Jewish, or if there is no father, the mother reads them. The blessing Before Circumcision is often read in English only, although I encourage you to read the Hebrew if you are comfortable doing so. The blessing After Circumcision is usually read in both Hebrew and English. Most people know the first two lines in Hebrew already and there are only two moderately difficult words: LE-HACH-NEE-SO and BIV-RE-TO Unless you choose to do differently, during the Children's Blessing, I will read the Hebrew and you will read the English. Of course, I have no problem with your reading all of it. If a rabbi is present he or she most likely will recite this blessing.
